This Merdeka Cheer Project cum Malaysia Day cum Moon
Cake Festival Dinner was organized by our club to celebrate Malaysia Day and
the Moon Cake Festival with the RRSS needy students. We were joined by Kolej
Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang Leos in this project. This project was held on the 15th of September, a day before Malaysia Day while Timur Seafood Restaurant was thevenue for this event.
This project was a three-in-one affair undertaken
jointly by The Leo Clubs of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang(KTDTHB) and Riam Road Secondary School. This project
costing RM2537.50 is a combination of welfare and a fellowship diner for the
leos and 20 needy RRSS students, in conjunction with Malaysia’s 56th
Independence and 50th Malaysia Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.
Miri MP Dr
Michael Teo sponsored the dinner treat for the needy students who also received
angpows . To make the occasion merrier, a lantern-making contest was held for
the Leos and celebrants. The lanterns were made from recyclable materials. This
celebration was a good opportunity for the Leos to care for the needy students.
On the cost
of the project, Dr Teo was the main sponsor who chipped in RM2100 while our
club donated RM323.55 and the Leo Club of KTDTHB donated RM100. In presenting
his donation, Dr Teo reminded the needy students that they could only change
their future through a good education.
This project was organized for the following reasons:
- To promote children welfare.
- To closen the bonds between fellow Leos, Lions and Faculty Advisors.
- To celebrate Malaysia's National Day, Malaysia Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
- To show needy students that they are remembered during festive celebrations.
- To showcase care for needy people and be a listening ear for their grievances.
