This Health Carnival Ulu Baram 2013 was
organized by our Sponsoring Lions Club, Lions Club of Miri Mandarin to give
needy villagers medical check-ups and aid. On the 5th-7th
of July 2013, our Leos went along with the Lions deep into the mountains to
help them.
The Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, Lions Club of Batu Niah and Lions
Club of Lutong and Leos from Leo Club of Riam Road Secondary School with the
spirit of “We Serve, We Care”, went to Ulu Baram which is a six-hour-drive from
Miri to attend the Health Carnival Ulu Baram 2013 on 5th July
2013. Our main objective was to provide
the villagers there free medical service and care.
This project is an
annual project carried out by Samling company and Lions Club of Miri Mandarin,
aiming for different rural areas every year. 124 of us went to the camp for
three days and two nights, to provide the villagers with free medical services
such as body check up, blood pressure test, teeth protection and care and many
more. Also, volunteers were there to trim their hair and donations such as
clothes, spectacles and mosquito nets were also given to the villagers.
Coincidentally, this
project aided the government to lend these villagers a helping hand and to
educate them on medical knowledge. Although there was heavy rain during our
stay, we managed to serve 3200 villagers. Methods of prevention were also
taught to the villagers.
This project was organized for the following objectives:
- To create awareness on the health and medical issues among villagers.
- To improve the medical facilities of Ulu Baram.
- To help the villagers to maintain their health and cure their sickness.
- To educate the villagers on the importance of taking health and hygienic issues seriously.
- To increase the bond between fellow Leos and Lions.
